Moving to Sale Agreed sign outside house

I am about to put a house up for sale . When it goes sale agreed do I have to change the signage outside the house from For Sale to Sale Agreed? A friend insists that would be unwise until the contact is signed and completed. Having never sold a house before my instinct is that the board should reflect the status of the sale and therefore when deposit has been paid etc we should change the signage to Sale agreed rather than leave it as For Sale in case the sale falls through. Any advice would be appreciated.
 
If you're using an estate agent let them worry about the sign. If you're doing it yourself then it's up to you what you do. There are no regulations that say that the sign has to be changed when sale agreed.
 
This Sale Agreed nonsense is just that, nonsense. Did I post that before?

The property is either "for sale" by the current owner or "sold" to the new owner, there is no interim status that has any legal meaning. The Under Offer, Sale Agreed, and Sold signs are marketing gimmicks invented by estate agents to show the world how outstanding they are at their jobs.

OP at no stage in the process do you have a legal obligation to have a sign outside the property saying anything - it's just an ad!
 
Sale agreed is when the booking deposit is paid. Buyer and seller can still back out so kind of nonsense.
 
I've never seen the agreed price on the eye-sores EAs plaster around the place.
 
Most of them are doing the sale agreed sign around my area. It is nonsense, I would go as far as saying telling my EA I do not want it, as it raises questions for the property if sale ends up unagreed, the only winner here is the EA marketing team, or the buyer might deter a late over bid....and it is not a buyers market so why accept it.
