Moving to Dublin from UK: Sandyford and surrounds

Hi

I am moving to Dubling in Mid-Feb. I am hoping to gain a job before I get there based in either the City centre or Sandyford area. I have been looking on the daft.ie website for rental properties in Sandyford and just outside. I'm just looking for some local knowledge on the area and is it a good place to be etc.

I am happy to drive for around 30 min to and from work, but am unsure where this takes me too considering the rush hour I know getting in and out of the city centre it is the Luas or bus rather than the car.

Can anyone help?

Welcome RD! Perhaps it would be easier for people to respond if you could clarify your question which seems to have two components - firstly what is Sandyford like to live in and if you live in Sandyford what is the commute like to Dublin. Have I understood?

Re: Moving to Dublin from UK

Somewhere like dundrum, windy arbour ranelagh ...all along Luas line and still close to the city centre for(or if you end up in sandyford working for socialising in town) would be very good.
If at all possible I would sort out the work first and try to get a feel for the city before committing to a years lease anywhere. If it suited your circumstancec you might try getting a room as a lodger for a few months and again daft.ie would be a great place to look for that type of accomodation.

Sandyford is a pretty grim place for traffic at peak times. As Madangan says pick a place on the Luas line -- say around Dundrum or Ranelagh and you'll save yourselfa lot of grief.

Hi All

Thanks for the initial views, Marie you are right I was thinking what Sandyford and surrounds where like to live in. I am seeking to rent for around 6mths and then buy once I have discovered which areas I prefer.

Sandyford has improved, with the new shopping centre. However, the new Luas works are going to make the traffic far worse
