Hi
I have a couple of Direct debits or standing orders that I want to move from one bank to another (as trying to consolidate outgoings).
Some of these are years old. How can I determine if they are s/o or D/Ds - do I just need to go into the bank and check?
can i just change these or do I need to send in a written instruction if they are a certain type?

This information may be in your bank statement.

My bank statement states that a payment is a direct debit.

The process for changing them is different, as the originator must change it,

In the case of a SO, you are the originator. If you are moving it from one back to another, simply cancel it from one account, and ope a new SO from the other account.

In the case of a DD, the originator is the utility company or service provider.
You need to fill in a new DD mandate for them. Ask each company their procedure for this.

Great, thanks for that. I had a look at the account on line and it indicates that alright and there's a couple of Direct Debits. I'll get in contact with those companies and see if they can send me out updated forms so I can change these over. Want to try and centralize all my outgoings. Thank you again.
