Need advice on the Following. The office I currently work in is closing and we are moving to an office in Dublin. I have been led to believe over the past number of months that I would only have to travel to this office 1 day a week and work from home the other 2 days. Nothing official was signed relating to this just verbal, and it was not guaranteed either it was more “I don’t see it being a problem, sure you can work from home. I only work 3 days a week, 21 hours in total.
A side issue to this is that my line of reporting isn’t really defined and I have been looking to have this straightened out for over 2 years and still nothing done about it. So it has come to my attention that one of the people I report to is expecting me to be in the office in Dublin 2 days as opposed to one day. I had a brief discussion with her about this and made it known I wasn’t happy, She was firm, I was firm, we both said we’d think about things. She said she would discuss it with other senior management and let me know. I said I was 99% sure that I couldn’t commit to travelling 2 days as I can’t afford the child care costs involved with the extra commute. I regret saying this now as I really like my job, but I also need to negotiate the best deal for myself.
All we are being told is that we will be moving sooner rather than later, but no one is giving me a time frame. Are there legal implications, ie do we have to get a certain amount of notice of changes to working conditions.
Are my employers obliged to pay my travel costs, which will be considerable. What are the legal implications of this if any. I would appreciate any advice and info people can give me on this.
