Moving meter boxes

Will need to move the ESB and eircom meter boxes as I am getting an extension built. Do I need them to do it (certified and all that) or can I get someone else to to part/all.
Also will have to move these form a gable wall to the new gable of the extension which may be tricky. Anybody done something similar?

Moving the actual boxes is a job for your builder but first you will have to get the ESB to disconnect the supply to the meter (for a fee) and then when you have relocated the position they will reconnect (for a fee) after receiving a certificate from your electrician. If it will be some time before you have the new meter position built they will give you a temporary supply. I am not sure about Eircom but I imagine that they will also have to relocate their main incoming cable for you (for a fee). So overall it is not a simple as moving the box!
