Moving from Ireland

Hi,

I have been living in Ireland for 9 months now and will be moving back to Denmark, were I originally come from in mid December.

I have been told that I can claim back my tax payments and my PRSI as well. I have no idea how to do this! And what other things I need to be aware of when leaving Ireland.

I have been told that I will get a P45 from my employer when I leave, stating my earnings. Furthermore I have been told that I should fill in a
P60 with the information I have from my P45 to claim back overpaid taxes.
Here after I was told to send the P60 to Revenue with bank details etc.

I called the Socail and Welfare Office regarding my PRSI payments and was sent a "Application form for Refund of PRSI contributions or Helth Levy". According to this form I can only get PRSI back if I am over 70 (which I'm not), pay maintenance to a spouse (this is not the case=, received Maternity or Disability Benefit (not the case either) or have a medical card. I do have a blue European Unian medical card. But the ID number from that card doesn't match the number of digits that I have to put in the form. So I guess it isn't that card.

Furthermore I told told that when I have my P45 I can apply for a E301 form, which is somekind of proof of what I paid in PRSI. Can anyone explaim what this is and why I need this?

Can anyone perhaps explaim how this works, because I think its very confusing! What needs to be done, which forms I need and why?

Thank you!

You may be entitled to a tax refund for the current year. Also if you did not claim a refund for 2007 request te Revenue to review this also.

Complete a Form P50 (not P60), and send to the Tax Office with your P45 for the current year claim.

You will get tax relief on any unused tax credits an lower rate band for the year.

Re PRSI - I see no reason why you should get a refund for these - these are paid weekly/monthly so as far as I can see no refund due.

However, as you are returning to an EU country, your country should give you credit for any Irish PRSI payments in calculating the benefits (state pension etc) you may be entitled to in your country, under the Social Security Agreement.

You will need to check the tax ruled in Denmark, as you may well be taxable in Denmark on your Irish income, but with a credit for Irish tax paid.

The form E301 is exactly as you said, proof that you paid PRSI while working in Ireland. If you have worked in any other countries in the EU you should do exactly the same thing in case you wish to claim benefits or pension in the future. All PRSI payments paid in whichever countries you work may need to be added together to qualify for certain benefits.
This is something I usually suggest to all workers returning to their own countries
