moving from a grave after 50 years

Hi
I have a relative buried in USA for the past 50 years who my elderly mother would like to bring home, can anyone tell me first of all the cost and also the procedure involved here. would it be awful expensive to do this. any info much appreciated

Gosh kd, I wouldn't know - it sounds like a daunting task to be honest, I just replied with a suggestion in case it doesnt work out - I wonder would you mum be consoled by somebody going over and taking scoop of soil from the top of the grave and bringing that home to add to a family grave with a mention on the stone?

In the meantime, I would start my investigation by consulting your local undertakers?
 
Maybe a cremation of the skeleton remains in USA and bring that home, might be more practical?
 
I hope this doesn't sound insensitive but after 50 years buried, would exhumation and transport even be physically possible? I would have thought that after that length of time, decomposition would render it an impossible task.
