Moving Date

We put a deposit on a house in meath end of MAY and were told by estate agent that the couple were moving to a new house and did not have a moving date but it would be latest end of September middle of October. We told her that we couldn't wait any longer than middle of October.

We were also told that they would give us a date end of July. We are renting in Dublin (very expensively) with two children one who is school going. We have secured a place in the new school in Meath so obviously we are getting very anxious about the date.

Now it is beginning of August and we still have no news on when their house will be ready. The estate agent replied to our query on this by answering two days later and metioning something about the owners having problems with solicitors and they were really busy at the moment changing solicitors and she would contact us soon but we were not to worry.

What can we do??? Do we have a leg to stand on to get them to agree a date - even if it means they have to move out and rent until their house is ready.

We are becoming very worried!!!!

Start making a lot of noise, this nicely approach with the estate agent wont do anything for you. Call them and tell them that unless you have an agreed date that will be stipulated on the contracts withing 1 or 2 days then you are pulling out of the sale. Get your solicitor to contact the vendors solicitor ,if they know who it is, and start talking to them as well.

Bare in mind that once you get a closing date it can still change so leave some time from your own deadline.

It's amazing how someone who's removed from the situation can see things so much clearer!!

On receiving your reply I immediately contacted my solicitor and told him our worries/problem etc and asked him to deal with it!!

I suppose that's what we're paying him for. He called me back ten minutes later and their solicitor now has a bit of fire under their ass!!

He reckons because of the problem with schools we should push towards beginning of September so we'll see - Thanks Again.
