Moving away from present locatio

Hi all,
My wife and I presently live in my home area and have an outstanding mortgage of €188k approx. The value of the house would be between €235k and €250k at a guess. However my wife wishes to move back to her home town in the next 12 months or so. With regards to getting funding for this it is my understanding that we would not be able to just transfer the mortgage to a new property but would instead have to sell our present house and then apply for a new mortgage.
My concern is that the company where I work is due to close in 18-24 months. My wife earns in the reigon of €55k per annum and I would be looking at a redundancy package of €100k or there abouts. Could anyone inform me as to what way I should approach this move with regard to a new mortgage or am I deluded in thinking that we will will even get one because of my situation. We would be looking for a mortgage in the reigon of €220K I would estimate.
Always paid present mortgage on time.
Thanks in advance for any advice.

Is your wife in a permanent job? or how secure is her work?
Have you any other savings. If not start saving hard and try to learn to live of your wifes salary so as you are used to it when and if your company closes.
Get your own house on the market. If you manage to get 40 - 50 k over what you owe and could put 50-60 of your redundancy to it you would be looking at a mortgage of about 120k which depending on your wifes job security shouldn't be a problem - again only the banks can confirm this. It would be manageable. You could aim to have more saved and also have the likes of solicitor fees stamp duty moving fees etc saved.
