Moving abroad, am I entitled to a tax refund?

Hi all,

Here is the scenario, I started work (PAYE job) last year in May and am thinking about moving abroad (with a new job in a new company) later in the summer.

1. Assuming my tax credits are apportioned on a monthly basis (is this correct?), if I move abroad would I be entitled to a tax refund on the months that I don't work in Ireland for the remainder of 2008?

2. Since I started work in May of 2007, I wonder am I due tax credits for January to April? Or would this have been automatically adjusted for? I had assumed that they would, but I notice very little difference in my take home pay since January

Thanks!

If you only started working in May your credits from January to April should have automatically been used in the first few months of employment, but I would check your payslips in case.

If you move abroad you are entitled to a full years credits so you would be due a refund, thats the way it was when I was in practice and I assume it has not changed.

thanks for your response - its much appreciated.

So the tax refund would be in my case a single persons yearly tax credit (1830 I think for 2008) scaled by the number of months I'm not in the country.
