Movement of savings

Hi all,

was loking to move some of my hard earned funds to a different jurisdiction, had a look at all the options in the "work-in-progress" post but many seem very convoluted to open the account initially. I am considering putting some funds into nationwide just to get it out of the irish system,AIB in particular.

Has anyone gone down this road and what were your thoughts and experience, easy/ hard , simple or messy etc.?

Thanks,

Westgolf

The process of opening an account with Nationwide Uk is very simple. Just start the application on their website.

Don't transfer it online. Moving money across that way is very cumbersome. I think you can only move it in 5k chunks at a time.

Depends on the bank. Moving 5,000 EUR per day is very do-able if you have a 'small' sum.

What if the Euro collapses and you have your savings in Euros in Nationwide UK - it being a UK bank - what happens then?

We are thinking of moving money from savings here in Ireland but are finding this all very difficult to understand but have subsantial savings and am worried.
Thanks

Depends on what you call "substantial". Under 50k? Under 100k?
We're spreading our risk a little bit (we hope) by moving some euro into UK guaranteed banks but also by opening a sterling account for about half of the rest of our savings. (Wasn't difficult to open the sterling account really). Really depends on what sort of lump sum you're talking about, as to what you need to do.
