Hi m8s
I had the kitchen fitter in measuring and he said that the cooker switch has to be moved slightly as it is right above the hob. There is not enough play in the cable so I want to put on a connector and extra peice of cable. Is this OK? It will be correctly rated, boxed and tiled over.

Its fine but I would'nt tile over the connection/box. All connections should be left accessible. I'd get a blank plate to cover the box, you can get chrome ones for kitchens.

Just as a matter of interest what is the correct way to join these. Is it a junction box or would strip connector do?
Or should they be crimped together?

Strip connectors in a suitable enclosure/junction box is the best way. You can't put a joint in the cooker flex by the way, only in the cooker fixed wiring.
