Motorhome hire in Australia

Has anyone had experience of doing this and was it more cost effective than hiring car and accommodation separately?

We have had some very expensive quotes however due to childrens' ages we would probably need 2 rooms each night.

We hired a camper van from Kia Campers.
It was very handy for us - both our transport and accomodation and saved a hell of a lot of packing and unpacking. But it was just 2 of us and the camper van was a modified transit van type thing - Brand new and got electic fridge and cooker and everything other than shower. Worked well.

It suited us more than the other options - Cant say it saved us money or cost us money. Best place to look for these things when there - is via the booking desks in the hostels. Best deals - and you dont need to be resident in the hostle to do so.

The only thing we got stung for is the deposit - cant remeber the whole deal - but i think because of the change in exchange rates - we lost a good bit of money on the deposit off our credit cards.
