Hello,

With the strong euro I'm strongly considering buying a used Harley Sportster bike in the UK.
What documentation is required to take the bike back?
Is anything required for customs at the ferry?
Any general advice would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks,

Moss

Hi Moss, I recently brought back a bike from the UK. What you require to take back the bike to Ireland is the V5 document from the owner. Try and take all of the V5 document back with you as it will make registering the bike a lot easier. The seller only needs to retain the permanent export portion.

I was not required to supply any documentation to customs at the ferry. It is highly advisable to get a HPI check done if you are buying second hand. You can also calculate the VRT payable on the revenue web site https://www.ros.ie/VRTEnquiryServlet/ShowVRT

Here is a link to a irish biker web site which outline the process for importing a UK secondhand bike http://www.biker.ie/forum/showthread.php?t=30368

I reckon saved about a grand and the bike was in mint condition.
