Motor tax

Hi guys,

I bought a second hand car from a dealer and need to tax it now. Even though the car has the NCT disc, I did not receive NCT certificate itself.

I see on the form RF100A that I need to fill in, this certificate is required. How do I go about obtaining a duplicate or is it sufficient to send in copy of the NCT disk to Motor Taxation Office?

Thanks

Mick

It's asking me to fill in nct details on the form, and then to post nct cert along with insurance cert, log book and credit card details or cheque

NCT cert is not required for Motor Tax, even though there is a section for it on the form - just ignore that section.

I assume you are talking about section 3 on this form (RF100A)

If so then see the notes on page 2 you will see that it is only needed for goods vehicles...

C3 Section 3 - A Certificate of roadworthiness (CRW) is required as follows:
· Goods Vehicles, Trailers, Buses and Ambulances over 1 year old must be tested every year
· Design Gross Vehicle Weight (DGVW) is the basis for determining vehicle classification for vehicle testing purposes
· Goods vehicle having a DGVW of 3500 kg kilograms or lower to be tested as a Light Goods Vehicle (L G V) – C R W fee €6
· Goods vehicle having DGVW exceeding 3500 kilograms to be tested as a Heavy Goods Vehicle (H G V) – C R W fee €13

It's different for commercial vehicles which need an annual "MOT" in order to obtain motor tax, but for a private vehicle there is no requirement for NCT in order to obtain motor tax.
