looking at buying a april 2008 car in the uk and importing it, I have come across differing opinions as to what is the motor tax based on, per the reverue webside:
https://www.motortax.ie/OMT/staticContent.do?page=motortaxrates
in the attachment headed, it seems to say that those cars imported after 1/7/08 but registered abroad 1/1-1/7/08 states that you will get the lesser of teh engine size and CO2 tax, has anyone done this and confirm this to be true, will help in deciding between importing a 2.2D 167g and 1.8P 177g.
CO2 EMISSION LEVEL RATES FROM 1 JANUARY 2009
The attached document sets out the rates of motor tax for brand new vehicles registered in this country after 1 July 2008. Vehicles registered before 1 January 2008, including imports first registered abroad prior to 1 January 2008, will continue to pay motor tax on the basis of engine size (cc rates are shown in previous link).
A private car first registered abroad prior to 1 January 2008 will be taxed on engine size (cc). The new CO2 based system does not apply to second-hand imports that were registered abroad prior to 2008.
also why are there so few CO2 tax bands ahen there were a lot more based on cc's,
