Motor tax on a used import hybrid?

Hi folks,

I'm a bit confused about the motor tax on imports, from what I can understand if the car was registered abroad prior to 2008 it will fall under the old motor tax system based on engine size.

One thing that I'm wondering about is the "electric" vehicle which enjoys a reduced motor tax. If I am to import a hybrid, say a Toyota Prius, that is older than 2008, would I be paying motor tax based on it's 1.5L engine or on the electric one?

If its prior to 2008 you will pay tax as a 1.5L, ie old system. Your vrt will be on the emmisions and a further reducing system linked to the age of the car
