I'm thinking of buying one of these from the UK. It's a 2.4TD, are Hilux's classified as goods vehicles??

DOesn't the surf have back seats and enclosed back thus making it a big 4x4 estate.

I would have thought with the back seats and windows in it is classed as a car.

Crew Cabs (assuming its got a pickup space behind which most do) are classed differently for VRT purposes, i.e. 13.5% VRT not the full 30% for private cars.

Motor Tax depends on what you use it for, i.e. Commerical use or Private use.

A bit of a grey area, but i think they can be tax/insured both ways depending on use.

If you keep the seats in the back of the hilux you will only be able to NCT the jeep and taxing it privately which will cost you.
However if you want to DoT the jeep you will have to remove the rear seats and weld up all seat belt points, tax it as a commercial and pay less on motor tax.
