Anyone know? I have thought about sites like Goldmoney.com but as far as I know they don't deliver physical bullion, they just hold it in an 'allocated account' (or so they say). What sort of import duties would be charged if I bought from, say the US or Australia?

Goldmoney do deliver, but the minimum is 100 gram bars:

You can also collect, if you go to London. Their fees for a 100 gram bar are 4%, which isn't bad at all: [broken link removed]

I have used following German company to deliver gold and silver coins to me and was very happy: http://www.heubach-edelmetalle.de/
If you use Google Chrome as your browser, I think there is a translation feature.
The prices are as low as 2.6% over spot price for gold coins and delivery is €16 for orders between €1000 and €3000, shipped insured through DHL.

I would avoid buying from outside the EU, as you would be liable for VAT.
