Mortgages Direct

They are a multi-agency intermediary who which means that you may not get the best/most suitable mortgage for your needs.

yeah i seen that, they only deal with 8 lenders.

But this is also true of, for example the board fav ;) REA.

from their web-site,

Breakdown of REA's Business in 2005
AIB 9%
Bank of Scotland 7%
EBS 2%
First Active 10%
ICS (Bank of Ireland) 15%
IIB 9%
Permanent tsb 17%
Ulster Bank 31%

Whereas Mortgages Direct give these lenders:

Lender Appointments:
Bank of Scotland (Ireland)
Educational Building Society
First Active
ICS Building Society
IIB Homeloans
Permanent TSB
Start Mortgages
Ulster Bank

Not really a huge difference, IMHO :D

we used them (Jack Robertson sales manager) and I found him to be very helpful and professional (esp. when An Post lost all our original documentation!) Would recommend them.

yeah jack is who i'm dealing with also, i find him very good. the only thing was that they only dealt with 8 lenders

The "rates" table in the property supplement of the Irish Times on Thursday shows all lenders bar ACC . Nationl Irish bank don't deal with any brokers AFAIK.

we used them last year - i swore never again, was told they would sort it in 3 weeks - 3 months more like, as slow as you like. .....bad memories!!

Am using them at the moment and feel its a really big mistake - yes they are pleasant on the phone, but you will make a long process even longer by using them (and prob any brokers) - they were organising the valuation for me and told me for a solid week that it had been completed and they were just waiting on the report to be faxed through - being totally green to the whole mortgage game i believed them - but eventually asked for the guys contact details myself - he had literally only got the instrucution to carry it out. The other thing that is that you only have their word if they say there is a backlog, delay etc (the are fond of these words!) with the lender - you wont have any way of finding out as they wont talk to you directly. i think the whole mortgage thing is a nightmare anyway but my advice would be avoid a broker if you can.

Would strongly agree with the last two posts re: mortgage brokers ... We are finally approaching the end of the moving house process and this time decided that we would use a mortgage broker.........big mistake........ As discussed they just add another couple of layers of red tape to the whole process, ..... Better off doing it yourself.
