mortgage TRS

Hi,

I have to apply for TRS which I haven't been claiming for the last few years. I thought I had been so this is obviously a nice little bonus!

I had been secretly planning a holiday for my wife next year, hiding money away gradually in the background. This amount would easily cover it.

But if my wife found out about it she might want to spend it on other things and I would have to give the game away about the holiday to stop her!

The application form lists two signatories.. and the mortgage is in both our names.

Is it possible to just apply in my name only?
I'm worried that if I ask they might think I'm trying to syphon the money off etc etc!!

When I filled in the online forms to get the TRS going forward it was just me required.

Looks to me like you could claim the married relief online yourself. But will your wife not look at the mortgage statement(s) or bank statements and notice?

not likely, i look after the money end of things

another question.... is TRS indefinate or does it still end after 7 years?

if it ends after 7 years... when does the counting start? from the date of your very first TRS payment? or the first payment for a particular mortgage account?

I never read anything about 7 years on the TRS literature about TRS but it has been mentioned to me.

TRS is indefinate, the 7 years refers to you being a FTB. FTB get additional benefits

TRS starts in the tax year that you made your first payment. If your first payment was in June 2006. your 7 years ends in 2012

See [broken link removed] and in particular point 9

so it seems I can claim 4 years back tax... and still get it from now on, but at non FTB rates. cool!

But my question still stands... to fill out the form can I just do it on my own... and the money goes directly into a nominated account in one go... or must my wife sign too (to ensure I haven't set up an account she isn't aware of I suppose).
