Mortgage top-up

I've applied for a small top-up on my mortgage and it's been approved today.

I just have to fill out a direct debit form and strangely, a marital status form, even tho I filled that in on the original form.

I'm single and only my name is on the deeds.

Anyone know why this is necessary? Seems odd!

Thanks

in case there is anyone else who may have rights to the property in case the bank needs to repossess it maybe ?

Just in case you've got married since.

It's for the purposes of the Family Home Protection Act 1976, which basically means that even where a person is the sole owner of a house, the spouse must consent to a mortgage being raised on the property, or to its sale.

Exactly. You should have to complete one each and everytime you take a top up to confirm your marital status hasn't changed.
