I bought my house two years ago. Coming off the initial (much lower) fixed rate I decided to apply for mortgage interest relief this year and was glad to get it.

Is the relief I'm getting now factoring in payments I made on the mortgage the past two years or should I apply for that separately?

You should backdate your claim for relief to when the mortgage started. Contact Revenue.

Should be applied for seperately.
Download form TRS1P from www.revenue.ie. You can claim interest relief for the current year and the four previous years.

I`m paying interest only part of mortgage. What do I need to do to claim Mort In relief? I can then backdate the claim for amount paid already? thanks

Your post is unclear - are you paying only part of the interest on the mortgage or part of your mortgage is interest only?!

For backdating claims you just need the end of year mortgage statements detailing the amount of interest actually charged. Then you need to inform Revenue which portion of this was yours if you are only paying part of it.
