Hi
Currently in the middle of a mortgage application. We are self building and had some funds to get us to roof level. Then we applied to our own bank for a mortgage which has turned into a long drawn out and highly stressful affair. I thought we had reached the end of the hassle as our bank informed me that a cheque was released for the first (of 2) drawdowns on Thursday. I was looking at the paperwork they sent me and it appears that they have added in mortgage payment protection of 58e a month. we had signed a waiver form to refuse this cover but somewhere along the way they have reinstated it. Has anyone else experienced this happening and if so what did you do to rectify? I am scared that if I raise it with them or solicitor I might not be able to lodge the mortgage cheque and we are in desperate need of this to pay workmen etc. Any advice gratefully received. I am so fed up with my bank I would love to switch accounts and mortgage but am too afraid it would be as traumatic elsewhere!

Thanks

Mortgage protection is usually the life cover associated with the mortgage that pays it off if you die, this is compulsory but mortgage payment protection is usually the one that pays your payments for a set time in case of accident, illness or redundancy. This one is optional and most unlikely the bank could insist on you having it. Lodge your cheque, then tell them they made an error and ask for a refund of the €58, they should have a copy of the form you signed refusing it or else your signature on the application for it.

Checked with bank and it was the life insurance (wording was not clear on their letter). It has changed by 5 euro from the original amount so am querying this as its a fair amount over the life of the mortgage. Getting there slowly but surely. Thanks
