Mortgage Interest Relief

My partner and i have just been approved for a mortgage.. we would ideally like to of bought somewhere by the end of the year (cutting it a bit fine i know) as we can avail of the tax relief..

We have some viewings lined up, and have been scouring the net for months and have a good idea of where we want to buy. But thats about it, we're still in the very early stages as we wanted to make sure we got approved first..

If we found a property we liked over the next couple of weeks, do you think we still have enough time to have everything finalised by the end of the year to still avail of the tax relief????

See this link for info. You are , as you say, cutting it a bit fine. I would have doubts that you could do it- I have my own clients who have had an offer accepted this week and hope to close before Christmas - they are on a warning that , with the best will in the world, that just may not happen.

I seriously doubt it is possible and you might rush into picking a house and still miss the deadline. It's too important a decision to rush, unfortunately I think you will have to assume it will not happen before year end.

Good advise;)

it took us just shy of three months to get from looking seriously/making an offer to getting the keys.

But that did include a week or two getting mortgage approval after we made an offer and we could probably have put more pressure on at the beginning if we had approval

Id say its unlikely youd make it nik

Thanks for the replys :)
We have found a house, placed the booking deposit, had a valuation done and have contacted and met with our solicitor.. Meeting with our broker this week to do our life/home insurance...
Still not too sure if we'll make it in time for the tax relief????
The house we bought is vacant with no one living in it so it should be a quick enough sale...
