my cousin built his house in 04/05. he started making mortgage repayments in 2005. he was single at the time and it was his first home.
he has never claimed tax relief on the interest payments.
He asked me to help him sort it out..... its a case of dumb and dumber...
His first payment was in 2005
He got married in November 2007
Is the following the correct reliefs he would be entitled to:
2005: max 8000 x 20%
2006: max 8000 x 20%
2007: max 8000 x 20% year of marriage
2008: max 20,000 x 22.5% wife never had a house before
2009: fill out trs form to get it done automatically. will the revenue give the relief for the first 3 months of payments in 09 or do i have to claim for those separately??
Really sorry for the long question. I know the form just requires him to put in the interest paid figure but we'd like to calculate it.
Any clarification would be greatfully appreciated
thanks
