Just got in from work and I have received my Mortgage Interest Relief letter from the Gov.
It states that as the mortgage is held by a combination of a FTB and me a non-FTB based on the info available i was not entitled to relief in light of budget announcement....
This is my primary residence, I have no other properties and took out the Mortgage in 2006, haven't switched lender???

I was sure I was entitled ......

The letter states interest relief is payable only for mortgage repayments on:
-a principal private residence for the first seven years of the mortgage
-a loan taken out for a new home [even if not your first home] or a new or top up loan for the purposes of improving an existing home..

I have to ring them tomorrow at this stage but does anyone know/see any reason I would not be entitled to Interest Relief??

tks,

Hi

I got the same letter the other day myself. I also think I am still entitled to mortgage interest relief and completed the form which was attached to the letter and posted it back.

I assumed that this was a general letter sent by the Revenue. They stopped people's mortgage interest relief earlier - so we have to apply for it again. That way they can assess each person/couple's circumstances.

I hope this helps....it's my opinion on it anyway. Kind Regards

All relief was stopped pending the submission of a new application. I think the mortgage had to be 7 years or less. I filled in the form, on line, and after a few months had the relief restored.

However, the few months for which it had been withdrawn was not restored despite this being an agreed condition. I must follow up on this as every few euro counts nowadays.

ok I see, I just fill in the top half of the form and return it ignoring the top-up loan section.

Strange that all I have to provide is the date the loan commenced and how much was for the PPR?? and they'll restore my interest relief...I mean they have the lender and account number listed on the form...very odd..

okay well I rang Revenue today and apparently there is a glitch/bug in the letter they are sending out if it relates to FTB and non-FTB on the Mortgage...so I was told anyway...I am still receiving TRS on my Mortgage and I just need to fill in the attached form so they can keep there records up to date.
