Hi just looking for a few opinions.
Have been approved for mortgage, found a house and i am in the process of exchanging contracts. My mortgage is over a 35 year term and i recently applied for life insurance.
However due to a high bmi the insurance company have only offered cover for twenty five years and recommend making up the rest of the term of the loan with over 50's cover. Its a small mortgage(110k) and i am a single applicant with no dependents. I have to speak to the bank about this on monday but just wondering if anyone has any experience or opinions on this?

How did they know your BMI? Do you need to do a medical with these people?
No idea if it's the norm but best of luck with it.

Hi thanks for the reply. When filling in quote forms you must supply height and weight, which I did. They then requested i have a medical with my gp, which i did. Got clean bill of health other than my bmi. They firstly said they would cover the full term of the mortgage but would put an extra fee on my premium. They then rang back that they were would insure me for half the price they had initially quoted but only for 25 years

Good to know, thanks. This post will be deleted if not edited immediately hopefully you get something sorted. Brian ODriscoll probably has a BMI of 30!

Check with your bank if they will let you sign a waiver for life cover based on the reason that you can't get it for the full term. Then you can go ahead and take the 25 yr one. Some banks facilitate waivers, some don't.

Thanks for that wbbs. Mortgage is with EBS so hopefully they would accept a waiver. I have a broker working with a few more companies so I am hoping to sort something out
