Mortgage companies letter to employers:details of these letters and what they ask?

I am currently in the process of going through a mortgage application, currently the mortgage company have sent letters to our employers asking for information regarding our employment, does anyone know the details of these letters and what they ask?

When we applied for our mortgage I had to bring a form into work for our salaries department so they could detail how much I earn (basic and overtime) and one for HR to say how long I worked there and what type of contract I had (Temp/permanent). I would imagine the letter your bank sent was looking for the same information
