My wife is nearing the end of her maternity leave (16 weeks until returning to work - currently totally unpaid) and we are in the final stages of mortgage approval. Have been approved in principle for 95% on 366K during the materinty leave. Now, we are told they will not issue the mortgage without a current payslip from spouse.
Just returning to work isn't really an option as we can't arrange hat level childcare at the drop of a hat and she cannot really mess around her employer like that after committing to this time off.
Is this something people have seen banks budge on? The whole point of maternity leave is that she IS NOT working...no one seems to understand this. For the record, it is a permanent job she is returning to and we have provided a letter from her employer stating she will return to exactly the same conditions as previous.
Thanks!
