Hi
I am a single parent with one child.i have been working FT for the past 5 yrs but I have just lost my job.
I have a Shared ownership loan on my house on which I pay 400 mortage and 400 rent a month.
i went to the council to see if they would re-negoicate the repayments but they wont .i asked if i could pay interest only on the loan for a year or if they could recalculate the rent repayable but they have said that they are unable as the rent is calculated on the purchase price of the house and they cant change it.
I went to the cummity welfare officer and they are unable to assist with the 400 per month rent as it is to the council .The welfare officer also informend me that i wasnt entitled to assitance on the mortage as i get 60 euro a week mainitaince for my child.
What can i do .

Isn't the first E95.23 of maintenance disregarded in the means test for mortgage interest relief

No. For Mortgage Interest Supplement, the first €95.23 of maintenance is assessed in full as means - this is because it's disregarded for Primary Social Welfare Schemes (e.g. One Parent Family Payment) so can't be disregarded twice.

Blable, have you claimed for Jobseeker's Benefit and One Parent Family Payment? You may qualify for both, or, if you've already been getting One Parent Family Payment, it may need to be reviewed now that you're no longer working.
