I am going for a week to Dubrovnik shortly. Going half board so will not need much spending money. What is the best way to bring money? Are Visa cards widely accepted. Can you get money out of ATMs with a laser or Visa card? Should I change money before I go or wait until I get there. Do many shops take euro in which case I could just take a pocket full of money?

What have other people done?
 
I preloaded my credit card and withdrew cash while over there. It is often one of the most cost effective ways to access foreign currency. My card charges a 1.75% forex margin on non € zone cash withdrawals - check your own for details of charges. Avoid cash advances as opposed to withdrawals from a preloaded card as they rack up interest immediately. There are loads of ATMs available. Plenty of places will take € as well but the exchange rate might not be great. Some banks over there offer reasonable rates and no charges on € to Kuna exchanges.
