I had a problem with my year old mobile and brought it back to get it repaired. After it was repaired I could not access any of my ring tones on my memory card as the software had been upgraded. The shop manager looked through the memory card and in the process wiped the card of all tones , photos, games etc.I have pointed out all of the facts and the shop have come back to me offering my €10 phone credit as compensation. What can I do as I have lost over 200 photos, some ring tones and games and feel that €10 credit is not acceptable. Thanks

normally advisible to remove anything like that from a memory card before leaving in for repair

The card was removed for the repair. After the phone was repaired I couldnt access the tones on the card due to the software change so I had to show the assistant the problem with the card inserted. The problem arose following this at the shop counter.

so you gave the phone so someone and asked them to get it working even when you knew they weren't properly trained ???

Sorry but your own fault in my view, take the 10 euro and chalk it up to experience.

+1. Take the tenner and move on.

Backing up data is best practice even if you never have to give it to someone else, if you lose data for whatever reason its your own fault as you didnt back it up.

Stand your ground. I wasn't told my phone would be wiped when it went in to be repaired (keys broke) so I made contact with the manager and in the end I got €40 to replace ringtones etc.

But this is an external card and the OP asked someone to do it, knowing they weren't trained.

The manager undertook the job. Whatever about a sales person I would like to think there is some accountability on the part of the manager?

A manager still decided they had the know how to assess the situation. They should be accountable.

Key to negotiation is to decide your bottom line - make up your mind what you want and then decide if you will pursue it and to what extent. Do not immediately reveal what you want, rather state you problem and ask them to put it to rights. If you have already accepted the tenner then it's game over and move on.

Thanks to everyone for their opinion.Opinions seem divided but I will be sticking to my ground as I havnt accepted the tenner. In my opinion the manager would have had to check the phone / card as part of customer service routine. My mistake was handing over my phone in good faith to the shop manager but I feel the offer of a tenner is an insult for their error and I will be changing network at my earliest convenience if there is no satisfactory movement.
