Mixing Led lighting bulbs with Halogen bulbs.

I have 4 recessed Halogen spot lights both worked off the same switch.

Two bulbs need to be replaced. Can I replace the two blown Halogen with LED bulbs. I will end up having a mix of bulbs.

I read somewhere that this can cause flickering. I don't want to deal with transformers.

The Led's are costing over €10 each while the halogen are costing just over €3.
 
Do you know if the halogens are high or low voltage ?

If low then then get rid of the transformers and use high voltage (230v) LEDS.
While you are at it why not "bite the bullet" and replace all four, as you'll be changing the remaining two sooner or later.

If dimming is not involved you can mix successfully, but as I say a better job is to do all four .
 
+1 for replacing all four. The leds will cost a fraction of the halogens to run and are much safer (no heat) .
 
Thanks for the replies. I am actually having difficulty getting the equivalent of 50 watt halogen bulbs in LED. Based in Dublin.

Is there a danger of fire with the halogen bulbs. They are in the ceiling of my bedroom. I noticed that there is no insulation on top of them in my attic.
 
There should never be insulation above/on top of halogen lamps as they run extremely hot.

I have used https://www.futureled.ie/ many times and find them very good. I don't always just go for the cheapest as this can be false economy in the long run.
No connection, just a customer.
 
As an aside, there are differences in the colour of the light emitted from the LEDs... warm white / white / cold white etc.. I've had a pack of 6 LED bulbs have slightly different colouring from one of the bulbs... just something to be aware .

Not definitively saying its the reason why, but quite often this is because they are "cheap and cheerful" lamps.
This is assuming from your post that all 6 are meant to be the same colour temp.

They seem to exclusively stock the Diall brand now, good output but there is occasional flicker. I've tried the dimable ones with a LightwaveRF dimmer I have, with that they only dim from 100% down to ~85%.
