Any idea? I created a thread titled Conned Big Time - but it has totally disappeared...

Thanks alot.

It must have breached a posting guideline - did you not get a PM? I thought thats what happened when you breached a guideline.

Let it go...you got sound advice. Decisions like that shouldn't be questioned. I'd imagine it was closed and deleted because a) the topic had run its course and b) the subject matter was a little controversial and had the potential to escalate into a more general and inappropriate social discussion.

it may be that you yourself did not post anything innapropriate, but that the thread took a turn into a place where heavy moderation would have been required.

The first post breached PG 10.

The post accuses an illiterate traveller of conning.

On AAM words such as "con" and "rip off" are rarely used and never in conjunction with one of the groups explicitly mentioned in the discrimination Act.

A feature of this board is that when the first post of a thread is unapproved that the entire thread dissapears! Including posts which did not breach the guidelines.

Ajapale, to be fair the OP was looking for advice on a particular situation where he/she was 'ripped-off'. That term is often used incorrectly on AAM but in this case an item was sold under false pretences. Whether the vendor is a member of a minority or not should be irrelevant...this would on the surface appear to be a con-job. The OP didn't 'accuse an illiterate traveller of conning'...the vendor themself used their illiteracy as an excuse for misselling the item. This is a dangerous topic but it could be discussed and analysed based on the facts. And the second last line of your post would appear to grant immunity to members of minorities from being held accountable for their actions. That can't be healthy. Anyone can perpertrate a 'con-job'...from any religon, any ethnic group, any nationality or any age.

OK, if the original post read like the following then it would not breach the posting guidelines:

Title: Bought caravan from small ad in B&S (mobile no). Its 6 years older than advertised? Any advice?

I saw an add in the "buy and sell" for a caravan priced at 4k.

I contacted the mobile number and spoke to the chap in Cork.

He said it was 1997 and immac condition.

He seemed genuine so I travelled to Cork and agreed a price of 3700 euro. (My foolish foolish mistake) This is my first caravan. I met him on Tuesday and paid up cash.

The killing thing is I did have a doubt in my mind about the year and it wasn't obvious behind the hitch. Anyway got it home and eventually found a badge - the caravan is 1991. Rang the guy ...

He wont take it back, told me I have no receipt, he'll change his phone . I'm sickened - my stupidity.

Any advice out there?

OP,
Feel free to cut and paste and post again.
