Mira Elite 2

Hi all, Can anyone help me? I have a Mira Elite 2 which only runs cold water on every setting. Modern plant said that it is because I live in a area with high percentage of lime and that the element is gone. They said that it would be cheaper for me to get a new shower. So I went to buy the cheapest one in B & Q (E80.....If i have to replace it every year I am not spending big money!) and the fella said that The Mira is a gravity feed shower and that I could only get another gravity feed shower and the only gravity feed shower they have is another Mira Elite 2. Does this make sense to anyone else??? Would it be cheaper for me to get the Mira fixed? It is out of warranty.

Two things.

Firstly, you would have to get a shower with the same type of feed to replace your current shower; otherwise you'll need to do more plumbing work. However, I'm sure there are other gravity fed (though perhaps you should note that says that the Elite 2 is a pump fed shower; not 100% sure of the difference), if you were willing to get a different brand. Mira has a good name among plumbers (or so our plumber told us), but you could ask for advice when buying.

Secondly, I'd shop around when looking to buy the shower, even if you know the exact model you're getting. We recently (< a year) changed our shower, and we bought a Mira Elite ST. B&Q were quoting what seemed to be a very high price for the shower, so we went to Woodies, Altantic and somewhere else. We saved over €70 by going to different shops and checking out the prices. To illustrate this, I've just checked the Woodies, Atlantic and B&Q sites (not listed on the Homebase site). The prices range from €249 to £289 (and who knows what the exchange rate is).

One other thing: a quick google tells me that you can buy valves and filters to put into your shower to soften the water, and that you could even buy parts to fix your existing shower. This thread, from this very site mentions the buying of parts in passing.
