Hi,

I've recently left the Irish army after just 7 years service and I'm trying to find some info on my pension. Can i transfer the money payed into my military into the pension that was set up for me in my new employment? Do I have any rights to even take the money and pay tax on it to receive lump sum? I am very confused with this so any help would be appreciated.

Thanks!

A quick read suggests that your army pension will be preserved for you until you reach the appropriate pensionable age.

Any public servant pensions are not funding so there is nothing that you can transfer to another employer. As stated, it will remain preserved until you reach retirement age.

OP if your new employment is in the public sector you may have options to transfer it.

And probably represent much better value that anything you could buy with the contributions even if you could transfer them.
Can anyone post a link to the pension rates provided for the Defence Forces?
