Just turned the big 40! worked c. 15 years in public service and looking to future... what options inside/ outside! Thinking of starting law (FE1) or accountancy... any advice...

Long term possibility that I may/ may not get promotion internally. But would be happy to move outide, in 'default'...

any advice

also advice re. executive coaching? any good?

I'd have thought that accountancy is probably more generally useful and in demand than legal qualifications at the moment, unless there is a particular relevance of legal stuff in your sector. Don't expect too many promotion opportunities in the public service in the short to medium term.

Qualifications

Thank you kindly- not looking for promotion in the short-term- but more like want to be ready for next phase of career and possible private sector. More interest in 'argumentative' type of mind- so hence the legal option.

Any other areas I should think about...?

They say go with what you love - so if you like the arguementative stuff, that might be a good career. My only concern would be the competition angle - there are lots of struggling qualified solicitors and barristers out there looking for work, so you'll be competing against them.

Morning all,

In relation to the FE1 Exam.. I would love to be more knowledgeable in the legal field, and in my line of work, I deal a lot with solicitors/courts etc etc. Would the FE1 be a bit too much, or is there anything else less intense that would suit better?

Im not looking to qualify as a solicitor but a good knowledge of law would make my job a lot easier!

Sorry to gatecrash your thread dublin2020!!

Thank you!
