Mice in my dishwasher!

ok, the mice can only be getting into the machine one of two ways:-
1. Through the dishwasher door. Check all the rubber seals and make sure they haven't perished or been nibbled.
2. Check the metal filters on the inside at the base of your machine. Screw them out and inspect the two metal filters for damage. These filters should be cleaned anyway on a regular basis.

fasinated by this, if they are in the dishwasher, close the door and turn it on, news will spread through the mice world that your dishwasher is a no go area

Are they dead or alive?

This thread is freaking me out completely.

Scaring me too. Just imagine the mice have probably been feeding there on and off for the last year or two. Just think what have been on the "clean" plates that have come out of that dishwasher. YUCK!!!!

Thats not nice!

They could be field mice which come inside, if they can, at this time of the year.

They are smaller than your average house mouse, could they fit up the pipes. Think they can swim bit as well cos of being outside type of creatures?

Nice one, thats it! The fact they can swim might explain how long they have survived in the damn machine. Maybe they are breeding in there? Has anyone checked for a nest?

If its any consolation it happened to me once. We left the door open for a while and he jumped in for some grub. Wife found a dead mouse in a cup after a wash!

I think you should pull out the dishwaher and look around the general area to see if there are droppings, if you have mice you need to set a few traps.

This thread is getting really gross.

I thought someone said these mice could swim? Not all of them it seems.

Did she (your wife) put the washer back on for a second wash before she emptied it? Just curious.

We do wash out the filters in the machine, the ones I can get at. I thought Mathepac was on about some kinda metal filters inside the waste pipe and if he was no I've never washed or heard of them.

We caught two Friday night and haven't had any since but I ain't using the dishwasher and won't be for a long time until I find out how they are getting in...

Oh PLease.... I I reckon I'll never use the dishwasher again after reading this and all of the above threads. They are tiny mice and we live in the country with lovely big corn fields out the back not so lovely now that I have swimming mice coming into my dishwasher

Thanks for posting Jister but at least you know your's jumped in. I told a friend of mine about the weekend and she too found a mouse in her dishwasher once she assumed it jumped in too but now she's wondering if it did or not!

I hope I'm not turning any off buying a new dishwasher...

As per my earlier post have you checked for the plastic bung at the top of the maching. I recently had my washer pulled out and found some mouse droppings up top. That's where I reckon they're getting in.

I just googled "mouse in the dishwasher" and found this thread. My son opened the dishwasher this evening and there was a mouse just happily running around the bottom. My husband tried to grab it and thought he had it but when he opened his hand, the glove was empty and the mouse was nowhere to be found!

I know it's winter and they come in but in the dishwasher? I have checked everywhere for damage and there is none and I know the plumbing has all of the things to prevent this because my husband is a plumber and did the work himself. We ran it and there is still nothing there. So now it's worse, I don't know where it is! We've set 4 sticky traps, I hope we find it! ICK ICK ICK!

They can get in anywhere so I guess they found someway in. Last year, they chewed through my baseboard in the basement and came in that way. I filled the whole with spackle and they chewed through that the same night! Tough little suckers.
