Medical Card/Health Insurance

Hi Im not sure if this post should be here or in Insurance so mods please move if so.

Does anybody know what the situation is with having health insurance and a medical card? Should having one preclude you from having the other? Will the fact that you have both mean that one lot might refuse to pay out? This is assuming you pass all the criteria for having a medical card, income etc but have bought insurance as well. Any info appreciated.
 
Lots of people have both, there is no conflict. The medical card application has only recently started asking the question as to whether you have private medical insurance, but this is for statistical purposes, rather than something more sinister.
