My 85 year old neighbour now has a gross income in excess of the new 35K limit, She filed a tax return earlier this year & received a small tax refund. Since the new threshold was announced she has not been contacted by Social Welfare or Revenue & unsure where she stands. Is she entitled to retain her long standing card or is she required to post it back to Social Welfare Office ? Perhaps there is a defined date when the card expires & should she continue on using her Medical/GP card until she gets notice that she is no longer eligible to use it ?

Thanks for that. I think that the 500 Euro per week will be a little too low for her & she may have to hand back her card. Intersting point now arises as her medical costs are over 5,000 per year she might be better off closing her saving account & giving up an employment pension paying around 1.350 p.a. if that would bring her gross down to below the 26,000 next year.

Her medicaion & hospital visit costs and procedures came to at least 5K this year but were covered by her medical card which she now is now fearful of losing. They will probably cost even more during 2014 as her condition will inevitably deteriorate.

Thanks Sahd, All that is really helpful & not nearly so bad as she had feared.
