Does anyone know when the 20% rebate on Med 1 expenses is in effect? I spent €3,600 in my laser eye surgery earlier this year. I cannot claim it back until the end of the tax year. Does that mean i will only get 20% back or the previous 42% tax back, given that the expenses were incurred in May 2008? thanks.

There were lots of queries on this during budget week - a search will throw up the answer. From recollection, you can claim at the higher rate for expenditure in 2008 but do a search.

You will get relief at your marginal rate in 2008. So if you have sufficient income taxed at 41% in 2008 then the relief will be €3,600 x 41%. If you are taxed at 20% only then the relief will be x 20%.
