Med 1 for Care Assistant?

My father is employing a CAre Assistant for himself until he retires, when I will be taking over payments.

Can he claim tax relief at source (i.e from his salary dept) or does it have to be done through Med 1? If through Med 1, does he have to wait to end of tax year to claim or can he claim periodically or claim at retirement (summer)?

Yeah, i looked at that. Unfortunately its only for someone who is fully incapacitated...and given that Dad is still working and paying for this himself that might look a bit suss
