I have a laptop with McAfee Total Protection and a new HTC ONE M8s smartphone. I received an email from a friend which I opened on my new phone. There was a link to a website (called Spotlight) which I clicked on. It had fields for entry of my email and password. I did not fill in these fields. A few days later I saw a Facebook message from my friend to say that her email had been hacked. I then looked at the original email on my laptop and there was a clear red band warning from McAfee. As a result I decided to contact McAfee to ask for a new product to protect both my pc and phone. They have a product called "LiveSafe" which does exactly this. So I ordered it and they uninstalled McAfee Total Protection on my pc and installed McAfee LiveSafe (they had difficulty installing it on my phone but they'll call me back later today and I assume they will successfully install it on my phone.
My question are:
My question are:
- Any thoughts on whether I'm doing the right thing in replacing McAfee Total Protection on my pc with McAfee LiveSafe?
- Is it a good and necessary thing to install LiveSafe on my new smartphone?
- Any general advice on smartphone security? Bear in my mind I'm of the pre IT generation and have only recently got a smartphone for work reasons. I'm a tour guide and work comes in by email and so I have to be able to respond immediately while on the move, otherwise the job will go to someone else.
