mazda 6 diesel - sourcing new steering rack

Steering rack has started leaking. From what I've been told it can't be repaired and needs to be replaced as a unit.

I priced the part in my friendly local dealer at 1,600 + VAT.

Any recommendations on sites or places where I can source it for less.
Is getting one from a scrap dealer or a spurious one the way to go.

Any UK sites people have used to source car parts they would recommend.
 
i'm not 100% on this but i think that the mazda 6 is the same as the old model mondeo as far as the steering rack is concerned i recently fitted ont to a mondeo that i was able to supply and fit for 300 euro all in.

what sort of mileage is on the rack at this time? the mondeo had 270k on it as it was a taxi.
 
Update:
I found a dealer on ebay who specialises in breaking mazda 6's.

2nd hand steering rack shipped to Ireland for €100. He has 100% feedback on ebay so hopefully it'll be in good nick.

Lesson is never go to a mazda dealer to buy parts. They must make some markup.
