Hi guys it would be great if anyone could shed some light on this situation.
A friend of mine may become unemployed pretty soon, she is a single mother who has worked full time all her life and never received a penny in benefit other than the usual childrens allowance. She has a mortgage and a credit union loan and doesnt know where to start if she is made unemployed. What kind of benefits will she receive from the Welfare etc? She also has an Order for maintenance but has to date 5 years later not recieved a penny from her childs father. Can anyone give me any pointers for me to help direct her?

Thanks a mil in advance.

As soon as she becomes unemployed she should apply for her Jobseekers benefit and One parent family payment.

Jobseekers benefit will be paid at half the normal rate on account of the OPFP Jobseekers benefit application form is available on line (welfare.ie) and should be filled up and taken to SW with passport and proof of address (ESB bill)

Go to the community welfare officer (at the local health centre) to apply for help with interest payments on mortgage. Bring mortgage statement.

It may be necessary to apply for supplementary welfare while SW payments are being processed
