Max weight on a roof rack?

I am considering an Ikea run, would be about 150 mile trip, to buy wardobes.

PLan would be to put them on the roofrack. Its a standard VW rack on a VW passat. Its the type that is removable using an allen key.

A wardrobe is about 56 kilos.

I am wondering how much weight I could put on the roof rack?

Or would the height of the flatpacks stacked on top be the limiting factor?

There should be a max weight in the car's manual and the same for your roof rack. May be written on it. I would also tie the load down front and back down to the bumpers etc. As well as at the sides through the doors. Don't drive too fast [as the force] on the wardobes will be upwards from the aerodynamics of the car.

Good points, thanks!

Might just pay someone to deliver, there's a guy who does IKEA runs, prob safer.....

Due to the length of the trip and the fact that it would mostly be motorway, I wouldn't recommend it just due to the speed, could be dangerous.
