Maui and L.A. Recommendations Please.

Hi All,

Looking at going to Maui in January and am hoping someone here can recommend good accommodation. Ideally, we would like a 4* hotel or condo near the beach.

We are a couple with no kids.

We also hope to stop off in LA on the way home for 3 nights to do the sights. Probably going to stay around Hollywood so a recommendation for a hotel there too would be appreciated.

In a word, don't! The area around Hollywood is rough and not at all nice. I would instead stay in one of the beach towns just outside LA and travel in for a day. Santa Monica is nice and there are some lovely hotels and there are plenty of LA tour options from there.

LA is a huge city without a centre as such, a day downtown is loads!

IIRC we stayed in a Mariott which was nice. We had friends from California with us and it worked out cheaper to get a suite with a sofabed than to book two rooms. As well as for LA it's a good base to do wine tours from...we spent a whole day going from winery to winery..luckily for us we has a designated driver in that one of our friends was pregnant at the time

Its 27 cities that merged into on big urban area and streets can be 30 miles long.
