I will be going back to college as a mature student and i was wondering if i was entitled to claim the labour as i was'nt planning on working. If i was to work how many hours could i do without it affecting my labour.Am i also able to get a tax rebate.Any advice would be helpful

As a full time student, you will be considered unavailable for work so cannot claim Jobseeker's Benefit or Allowance while in college.

If you were going to college at night (part-time) and were available for, and genuinely seeking work during the day, you might be eligible.

hi i was a mature student and this is how it worked for me-you have to be 6 months unemployed to qualify for the btea allowance(same amount as dole) you get that and rent allowance and i had a top up loan from fingal co. co. of 6,000 per year..... if your going back to 3rd level this is what your intitled to if your 6months unemployed prior to starting col.....

i also claimed btea on 2nd level college and fas and this course counted as the 6months qualifying.... strangely enough the top up is added up from how many days you have of being on the dole.... for me i had to be over 350 or something...anyways any questions welcome xx

If its a second level course you are taking up, the BTEA qualifying period is six months on JA/JB (156 days) and for third level, it's 12 months (312 days).
