Hi
I am currently 14 weeks pregnant. I have just been made redundant - my last day of work will be the 31/05/08.

My baby is due on the 15/08/08.

The citizens information have told me that I must start my maternity benefit the day after my last day at work in order to qualify for the benefit.

But my dr has told me that she will give me sick certs until I ma due to start my maternity leave, i.e. 2 wks before baby is born. She said that this will work and then I can draw my maternity benefit as planned.
The community officer has agreed with the dr.

I am just worried that they may not have thought it through and I would hate to miss out on the extra 100 euro that the maternity benefit will give me.

Does anyone have any experience of this?

As I understand it your Dr. and CWO are correct.
You should apply for your Maternity Ben. before you finish work therefore getting your current employer to sign the Form and giving 01/08/08 or thereabouts as the starting date of Maternity leave.
Maternity leave should start within 16 weeks of your last day of employment

Thanks for that black sheep - does my employer have to sign the sick form or is it just the dr - my employer has signed the maternity benefit form. Thankfully.

Thanks for your help.

Caroline

Your Doctor will have the Illness Benefit forms and(he or Secretary) will complete his section of that form which you will then complete your portion of it. Drop it in to your local SW office.

Get the follow on certs. filled each week and pass on to the SW office

This does not envolve your employer
